QB2 is an open pit operation which leaches the ore to produce copper cathodes via processing in an SX-EW plant. It is located in the Tarapaca Region, at an altitude of 4,400 meters above sea level and approximately 240 kilometers southeast of the city of Iquique.

Project considers the construction of a concentrator plant near the mine; a tailings deposit; a pipeline for the transportation of copper concentrate; a desalination plant supplying sea water - which will be sent by an aqueduct to the concentrator and facilities for the reception, filtering and shipment of the concentrate in the Patache Norte sector, south of Iquique.


Participates in the implementation of the quality and risk management program/plans. Participates in a staff function either in quality program development/implementation/maintenance or in a management capacity. Responsible for supervising quality activities on a project as the subordinate to the quality manager or deputy quality manager. May maintain client, contractor and supplier’s liaison and communication for project quality activities. Advises management of project quality problems and progress.

Essential Job Duties

  • Implements the quality program/plans for a project at an assigned project location.
  • Ensures timely and effective implementation of project quality program/plans.
  • Supports the implementation of the project monitoring/auditing program at the assigned construction.
  • Directs the implementation of the project monitoring/auditing program at the assigned construction or plant site or project office location.
  • Prepares and completes quality audit checklists and participates in audits.
  • Provides recommendations to project personnel to correct quality deficiencies.
  • Represents the project during audits by management, the client and regulatory agencies as requested by the quality manager.
  • Identifies and reports conditions that require corrective action by management and follows up to ensure completion.
  • Initiates stop work when authorized.
  • Follows up on actions taken in response to audit findings to ensure adequate close out.
  • Provides on-the-job training for assigned quality personnel.
  • Prepares quality procedures for review, approval, and issuance in accordance with client and company requirements.
  • Prepares revisions/amendments for the project quality program/plan for review, approval and issuance.
  • Reviews quality related procedures and manuals developed by other departments, suppliers and subcontractors for conformance to project quality program/plan requirements.
  • Reviews and reports on the impact of new or revised regulatory requirements on the project quality program/plan.
  • Reviews selected project/functional documents/procedures to ensure the inclusion of applicable quality requirements.
  • Reviews project system documentation packages for completion prior to system turnover to the client.
  • Performs supplier/subcontractor qualification surveys, reviews requests for proposals, evaluates bid documents, reviews supplier/subcontractor quality programs, and performs source inspections, surveillances and quality audits.
  • Support the risk management activities at site.
  • Support and provide effective collaboration at site in the deployment of People Based Quality program (PBQ).
  • Assure and promote an effective implementation of the Bechtel Quality Absolutes by Project´s contractors.
  • Acting as a leader of safe and ethics behavior at site.
  • Provide support to productivity and innovations activities at Site

Job Knowledge

  • Technical knowledge in the application of engineering, environmental, procurement, contracts, safety, construction, testing, preops, etc. and regulatory requirements.
  • Broad knowledge of the quality principles and their application to engineering, environmental, procurement, construction, testing, preops, etc.
  • Knowledge of the application of preventive and corrective actions to reconcile nonconforming conditions.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and functions which impact the quality and risk management program/plan.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communications.
  • Proficiency in providing direction and on the job training to assigned personnel.
  • Proficiency in the use of applicable computer programs.

This knowledge is normally acquired through one or a combination of the following:


    • a recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, or
    • specialized courses in engineering, quality, personnel administration or a specialized discipline, and
    • practical work experience in fields of engineering, environmental science, procurement, construction, testing, operations, decommissioning, or business administration

Position for Quebrada Blanca Fase 2 Project Iquique, Port, Pipeline or Concentrator, Chile. With the purpose of being accredited to perform in the field, the position will begin in Santiago until receiving the corresponding authorization and then will move to the field as soon as possible to join the respective shift.
